Courtney & Luke are another one of my 2022 wedding couples! Their Oregon engagement session was so sweet & romantic.
We did their engagement session at two different locations – Rowena Crest near The Dalles, OR and Maryhill Stonehenge. I love shooting at both these locations during the week because you get the place all to yourself!
Weekends (especially in the summer) tend to be busy at these locations, so I highly suggest scheduling your session here during the week.
Maryhill Stonehenge
We started their session at Maryhill Stonehenge. The architecture of this location is so unique, and Courtney + Luke were up for doing something different! From a photography perspective, it was a fun challenge making sure my composition complimented the architecture.
Thankfully there weren’t too many people present since the space isn’t very big. I highly recommend using this location on a weekday versus the weekend due to less traffic.
Rowena Crest
After the stonehenge, we made our way to Rowena Crest! It’s about a 30 minute drive from the stonehenge so make sure to factor in the drive time if you want to arrive in time for sunset!
This location never disappoints, and it’s a lot larger than the stonehenge. While it does get quite a bit of foot traffic on the weekends, you have plenty of space to enjoy the landscape and amazing views.
Tips for your Oregon engagement session
Both locations have stunning scenery near the Columbia River Gorge. Sunsets here NEVER disappoint. The one thing you do have to keep in mind with these locations is the wind. Since both locations are view points, they are higher up where the wind is felt more than normal. There are also a lot of windmills in this area, which increase the wind. With the right posing techniques though, you can take advantage of the wind to make it flattering!
